Littleton Circuit Card Assembly

Curtiss-Wright’s Littleton Operation is a complete source for electronics and electrical assembly services. With a long history of high reliability Circuit Card Assembly starting in 1968, Littleton has the capability to provide both current and legacy CCAs.

In conformance with customer specifications, the Littleton Operation builds CCAs by populating ‘bare’ printed wiring boards (PWB conforming to Mil-PRF-55110G and MIL-PRF-31032) using components, solder and solder paste that are purchased with manufacturers certifications from qualified, experienced, military components suppliers. Component placement, assembly and solder are done either in Littleton, Massachusetts or at our facility in Kanata, Ontario. Additional assembly is performed at our network of small business partners. Each CCA is then processed through our automated inspections and tests, including in-circuit test and automated optical inspection. For certain component types, boards are x-ray inspected. To assure compliance with IPC-610 Class 3, visible solder joints and placed components are 100% manually inspected.

Each CCA is then processed through electrical tests in compliance with its performance specification. Littleton has in-house vibration tables and thermal chambers allowing customer CCA’s to be processed through Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) in the same facility where functional tests are performed. Littleton’s CCA operation also incorporates in-house conformal coating capability for both urethane and acrylic coatings. Littleton uses certified mil-spec materials for all coating operations.

The Littleton Operation has produced high reliability CCAs in quantities from 1 to 35,000. Solderers and solder inspectors are trained and certified to IPC standards.  Component replacement specialists complement Littleton’s test and troubleshoot capability to provide rapid turnaround of field damaged boards. Littleton’s experience with power supply and power distribution equipment assures that our experienced operators know how to assemble heavy, bulky, high current components to CCAs which will be subject to the harsh environment in a tracked military vehicle or high G weapon system.
