SVME/DMV-186 is Curtiss-Wright Controls’ first VME64 SBC based on Freescale’s QorIQ P4080 SBC

OTTAWA, ONTARIO –January 6, 2010 -- Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX™, VXS, and CompactPCI products for the rugged embedded and rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) markets, has introduced the SVME/DMV-186, its latest rugged 6U VME64 single board computer (SBC). The SVME/DMV-186, powered by Freescale’s QorIQ P4080 family of higher performance processors, provides up to eight Power Architecture™ processor cores and associated high-performance data-path acceleration logic, network and peripheral bus interfaces with superior MIPS/Watt performance.

The SVME/DMV-186 augments the performance and advanced I/O capabilities of Freescale’s QorIQ™ P4080 processor with an extensive I/O complement to provide a highly capable 6U VME64 SBC. Joining its predecessors, the 6U VPX VPX6-187, and the 3U VPX VPX3-129, the SVME/DMV-186 is the third member of Curtiss-Wright Controls’ family of QorIQ P4080-based SBCs. The SVME/DMV-186 is ideal for a wide range of rugged embedded military applications including tactical aircraft, armored vehicles or rugged naval systems.

“The SVME/DMV-186 expands our rugged Power™ Architecture-based 6U VME product portfolio,” said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “It provides our highest MIPS/Watt performance SBC for our VME customers.”

The SVME/DMV-186 is the newest addition to Curtiss-Wright Controls’ popular and broad family of VME SBCs, including our 17x and 18x series of boards. Because it is pin-out compatible with previous generations of Curtiss-Wright Controls SBCs (SVME-DMV 182, SVME-DMV 183 and SVME-DMV 184), the SVME/DMV-186 eases and speeds technology upgrades to the next generation of Power Architecture™ processors for legacy systems and new applications.

For system expansion, the SVME/DMV-186 provides two PMC/XMC sites supporting the acquisition, processing, and distribution of sensor data such as video, radar, and sonar data. Its rich I/O complement of three (3) Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports, options for multifunction RS-232/422/485 serial ports, MIL-STD-1553, Serial ATA (SATA),and TTL and differential discretes provides connectivity integration with other system elements without using up its PMC/XMC sites.

Software Support
The SVME/DMV-186 SBC is built in conformance with Curtiss-Wright Controls’ Continuum Software Architecture (CSA), an interoperability initiative under its COTS Continuum program that eases system upgrades and compatibility across product lines through the use of standardized APIs and abstraction of hardware layers. CSA-compliant boards significantly ease and speed software driver development efforts.

Operating environment support includes drivers supporting both AMP and SMP operating modes for operating environments including Wind River VxWorks 6.8+ BSP and driver suite supporting Workbench 3.x IDE, VxWorks 6.x MIL-STD-1553 Driver, and Wind River Linux 3.0+.

Ruggedization Levels
The SVME/DMV-186 is designed for demanding high-performance rugged embedded and rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) applications. It is offered in a range of rugged configurations including air-cooled (Level 0/100) and conduction-cooled (Level 100/200). Innovative cooling techniques are employed to handle high performance implementations.
