Curtiss-Wright Controls Littleton, MA operation is an ISO certified military electronics engineering, manufacturing and testing facility, specializing in the production of rugged, electric/electronic enclosures, circuit card assemblies, cable and wiring harnesses, and power control and distribution subsystem assemblies. With extensive expertise in obsolescence management, Littleton also provides a broad range of long-term support services.
Our Littleton operation is uniquely qualified to handle the manufacture of highly-specialized military electronics. In addition to ISO 9001:2000 certification (view here), the facility has also achieved AS9100 certification, ensuring the highest levels of quality assurance and cost-containment in the aerospace industry. In order to satisfy the unique requirements of their defense industry customers, the Littleton operation has also secured the following:
Approved by Defense Contracts Auditing Agency (DCAA)
Security cleared to SECRET level
Certified program management
Customers often rely on Littleton for the manufacture of legacy products, enabling them to focus their own manufacturing expertise on new products and programs. Littleton's experience in product sustainment enables them to easily handle these long-term production contracts, which often extend over a number of years.
Customers have also relied on the Littleton facility to handle short production runs that are not economically feasible within their own facility. The size and workflow at Littleton makes it easy for them to handle these short production runs at a reasonable cost. Again, this enables the customer to focus their own manufacturing capabilities on larger and more extensive runs and enhance their own profitability.
Five Distinct Manufacturing and Test Functions
The Littleton Manufacturing and Test operations are organized into five distinct areas:
Circuit card assembly: In support of their many legacy-product manufacturing programs, Littleton maintains a complete through-hole manufacturing capability, with a capacity of 40,000 CCAs per year. For manufacturing of more recent products they have also developed surface mount capability, and they continue to evolve this capability as new manufacturing opportunities arise. >> Learn more
Cable assembly: Littleton has extensive experience in the preparation and assembly of complex cable harnesses, with a capacity of 4 million terminations per year! A wide variety of cables sizes and lengths are supported, with sizes from 32 gage to 00 gage wire and cable lengths of 2 inches to 200 feet.
Box build capability: This product area is based on flexible, product cell based assembly stations that can be quickly changed to accommodate new products. Tooling, work instructions, and supplies can be quickly swapped for assembly of different products.
Environmental Stress Screening: Littleton maintains extensive test capabilities with four vibration tables, six thermal cycle chambers and a radio transmitter burn-in chamber. In addition, one combined thermal and vibration test station is available.
Specialty item build areas: Assembly stations are available for a variety of unique product requirements and include unit rebuild, precision mechanical assembly, high-volume assembly, and new product development and startup.
Turn-Key Manufacturing with a Teaming Focus
As noted earlier, Littleton utilizes flexible, rapid change assembly stations in their manufacturing process. Experienced, skilled assemblers complete each production unit as part of a team for that particular product. These teams take great pride in their workmanship, assuring customers of the quality that comes only with the "ownership" facilitated by this teaming approach.
As new assemblers are inserted into production teams they are mentored by their seasoned team members. This insures not only that they master their assembly skills but also that they are fully integrated with their team. Customers can be assured that they will receive consistently high-quality output from their products dedicated assembly team.
The Experience to do the Job Right
For more than 35 years, the manufacturing professionals in Littleton have satisfied the needs of a wide range of military programs and customers. Their specific expertise lies in power distribution, systems controls, weapons systems and locating and positioning systems. As part of our business diversification plan, the Littleton facility has expanded into the design and production of highly-specialized security solutions. Our exclusive Quick-reaction Perimeter Intrusion Detection system (QUPID) is a new, low cost, intrusion detection and tracking sensor that monitors the area beyond a fence line to extend the perimeter defenses. With a range of selection of between 30 meters to 100 meters and beyond, the system provides early warning of an intrusion before they actually occur. QUPID can detect vehicles and intruders on foot, even someone crawling on the ground.
The Littleton Operation is also partnered in a Joint Venture with GM-Merc to provide a variety of Air Traffic Control Modernization solutions, including Video Map Generators and other navigation related products.
Creative Solutions for Battlefield Operations
Curtiss-Wright's Power Accessory Distribution System (PADS) is used to provide a Military Vehicle occupant with the ability to have a plug in solution to providing accessory power from the vehicle 28 Vdc power source while in the vehicle cab. PADS provides a ready to use, rugged, drop in solution that matches the militarized design of the vehicle.
