The PMC-650 is an eight-port rugged Gigabit Ethernet Switch and is a part of a family of Gigabit Ethernet switching and routing products from Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. Enabling gigabit Ethernet connections of CPUs, cards, and chassis in VME or VPX systems, the PMC-650 is an ideal low cost solution for architecting simple Intra-Platform Networks (IPNs).
The PMC-650 is an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch packaged in the industry-standard PMC form factor. It provides wirespeed unmanaged Layer-2 switching capabilities and typically sits on any basecard with a PMC site (e.g. Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Single Board Computer (SBC), Carrier or a Custom card). Ethernet interfaces from these and other cards within a chassis can be connected to the PMC-650 to create network ready systems. The PMC-650 connects to the PCI bus for power only. It has no effect on the operation of the host PCI bus. No software driver is needed on the base cards. The PMC-650 is designed for rugged applications with backplane I/O and is offered in a full range of ruggedized air-cooled and conduction-cooled versions.
