PAE4 Type 1 (Atlas/1) PMC

The PAE4 Type 1 (Atlas/1) is the graphics-only version of the PAE4 (Atlas) and is part a new series of single and dual-channel, high resolution PMC graphics controllers for VME, CompactPCI and PCI systems. The PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) includes NTSC/PAL/RGB/DVI input, USB 2.0, and Audio Stereo I/O.

The PAE4 Type 1 (Atlas/1) is based on ATI Technologies' RADEON Mobility 9000 (M9) mobile graphics processor, which supports 2D, 3D, OpenGL, and DirectX compatible displays with up to 16.7 million colors (24 bpp). The M9 features 64 MB of integrated memory, reduced-power optimizations, integrated video output, and quad-pipeline 2D/3D hardware acceleration.

The PAE4 Type 1 (Atlas/1) displays analog VGA screen resolutions up to 1920x1200 over both of its front panel connectors. The card can also be configured to output dual digital video (DVI) channels at resolutions up to 1600x1200 (1920x1200 with reduced blanking interval timing). TV video signal output (NTSC/PAL) is supported on the card's second channel. STANAG 3350 A-C and Sync-On-Green (SOG) can be had on both channels. A special order version supports front panel LVDS requirements.

The dual-mode VGA/FCode BIOS enables the PAE4 Type 1 to operate in virtually any x86, PowerPC, or SPARC system. Software support (contact Sales for availability) across a broad range of operating systems includes Solaris, Linux, Windows and VxWorks.

Output(s) are provided exclusively on front panel connectors: single or dual VGA for VGA only versions, and DVI-I and/or MDR20 for VGA+DVI versions. The board is primarily intended for use in 0°C to +70°C operating environments, however, special extended temperature testing is also available. Regardless, an on-board LM75 thermal sensor is included on all boards for use in monitoring local heat levels.

The board features a number of unique design attributes including:

  • M9 dual display design provides single or dual VGA and DVI via the PMC front panel
  • Uses VGA, DVI-I, and MDR20 connectors that connect to standard interfaces
  • On-board 3V regulator for compatibility with all VME CPU boards
  • Full Windows compatibility including power management and BIOS auto-detect
  • Support for non-interlaced, interlaced, and sync-on-green on both VGA/RGB channels
  • PMC host interface is compatible with 32 and 64-bit PCI and PCI-X

Standard versions include:

  • PAE4 Type 1V Single or dual analog output graphics display. Supports dual channel VGA and composite graphics (sync on green or separate composite sync) and single channel NTSC/PAL. Uses 2 standard VGA connectors.
  • PAE4 Type 1D Single or dual analog/digital output graphics display. Supports dual channel DVI, VGA and composite graphics (sync on green or separate composite sync) and single channel NTSC/PAL Uses standard DVI-I and MDR20 (DFP compatible) connectors.

The PAE4 (Atlas) is compatible with existing radar scan conversion and video-windowing products from the Curtiss-Wright product family that support complex command and control displays for graphics and multiple sources of real-time video.
