PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) PMC

Featuring Two Display Channels, NTSC/PAL/RGB/DVI In, USB 2.0, and Audio I/O

The PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) PMC is the full-featured multimedia version of the PAE4 (Atlas) and is part a new series of single and dual-channel, high resolution PMC graphics controllers for VME, CompactPCI and PCI systems. The PAE4 Type 1 PMC (Atlas/2) is the graphics-only version which includes  single or dual VGA and/or DVI outputs.

The PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) PMC is based on ATI Technologies' RADEON Mobility 9000 (M9) mobile graphics processor, which supports 2D, 3D, OpenGL, and DirectX compatible displays with up to 16.7 million colors (24 bpp). The M9 features 64 MB of integrated memory, reduced-power optimizations, integrated video output, and quad-pipeline 2D/3D hardware acceleration.

The PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) PMC displays analog VGA screen resolutions up to 1920x1200 over its front panel DVI-I and MDR20 connectors. The card can also be configured to output dual digital video (DVI) channels at resolutions up to 1600x1200 (1920x1200 with reduced blanking interval timing). TV video signal output (NTSC/PAL) is supported on the card's second channel. STANAG 3350 A-C and Sync-On-Green (SOG) can be had on both channels. A special order version supports front panel LVDS requirements.

In addition to graphics outputs, the PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) PMC includes NTSC/PAL, RGB, or DVI input modes, a USB 2.0 host controller, and an Audio Stereo I/O controller. Access to these functions is via DVI-I (spare pins) and the MDR20 connectors. Simultaneous activitiy from an NTSC input (from a VCR, using the video input), a USB webcam, and audio output can be reliably demonstrated on a Windows XP system with a 66 MHz PCI backplane.  Alternatively, 1024x768x16 bpp RGBHV can be relaibly acquired.

The dual-mode VGA/FCode BIOS enables the PAE4 Type 2 (Atlas/2) PMC to operate in virtually any x86, PowerPC, or SPARC system. Software support  (contact Sales for availability) across a broad range of operating systems includes Solaris, Linux, Windows and VxWorks.

The board is primarily intended for use in 0°C to +70°C operating environments, however, special extended temperature testing is also available. Regardless, an on-board LM75 thermal sensor is included on all boards for use in monitoring local heat levels.

The board features a number of unique design attributes including:

  • M9 dual display design provides single or dual VGA, DVI, USB 2.0, stereo audio I/O, and NTSC, PAL, RGB or DVI video input via the PMC front panel
  • Uses DVI-I and MDR20 connectors that connect to standard interfaces
  • Breakout cables are available for extended features
  • On-board 3V regulator for compatibility with all VME CPU boards
  • Full Windows compatibility including power management and BIOS auto-detect
  • PMC host interface is compatible with 32 and 64-bit PCI and PCI-X

Standard versions include:

  • PAE4 Type 2A PMC - Dual analog/digital output graphics display with NTSC/PAL or RGBHV video input, USB 2.0 port, and stereo audio I/O.
  • PAE4 Type 2B PMC - Dual analog/digital output graphics display with DVI input, USB 2.0 port, and stereo audio I/O.

The PAE4 (Atlas) PMC is compatible with existing radar scan conversion and video-windowing products from the Curtiss-Wright product family that support complex command and control displays for graphics and multiple sources of real-time video.
